Who We Are
Lively Minds tutoring is an educational services company with the mission to provide dedicated and focused instruction in order to foster academic strengths, cultivate effective study skills, and instill a genuine confidence built on achievement. We are dedicated to giving students the individualized instruction that they need to help them overcome the obstacles that are preventing them from achieving greatness.
We believe that every child’s mind is capable of amazing accomplishments based on his or her own unique set of strengths. As a result, we maintain high expectations of our students because we want them to know that we believe that they are capable. It has been our experience that students gain confidence and genuine self-esteem from the sense of accomplishment that comes from dedication, perseverance, and achievement.
We tutor students in grades Pre-K through college in academic subjects, and we coach students for study skills and executive function skills to help them become strong learners. We create individual learning plans based on measureable goals, and we keep the lines of communication open with teachers, tutors, and parents so that everyone can work together to help our students succeed.
We work with student in their homes or other desired location. Our tutors travel to the Metro Phoenix area, including Scottsdale, the East Valley, and the West Valley. We also work with students in Colorado Springs, CO.
Our History
Lively Minds Tutoring was founded by Candace Heiken in 2011 in response to the growing need for exceptional individual instruction. Candace has a strong passion for learning, and Lively Minds was developed to help instill that passion in others by recognizing that every student has unique needs. Candace holds a master’s degree of education, a bachelor’s degree of psychology, and over 20 years of tutoring experience.

When they reach hurdles that are too high for them, we don’t want them to become defeated and identify with failure. That is when a tutor can make an enormous impact on a student’s academic perception and success. A good tutor not only gives a student the tools that he needs to be successful, she also gives him the confidence to overcome obstacles. Every child deserves the very best opportunity for success, and that looks different for each child. That is why I am confident that individualized attention is exactly what many students need to truly succeed.”
